In The Absorbent Mind, Dr. Montessori wrote, “The most important period of life is not the age of university studies, but the first one, the period from birth to the age of six. For that is the time when man’s intelligence itself, his greatest implement is being formed.”
The Primary program at BMS focuses on the whole child teaching approach and allowing children to develop at their own pace. The Prepared Environment of the Primary program is designed and laid out in a logical, sequential order. The class offers a calm atmosphere, where children’s individual choices are respected and protected.
Teachers guide the children through materials in the areas of: Practical Life, Sensorial, Math, Language, Science and Geography. The children have a three hour work cycle each morning allowing teachers the opportunity to work individually with children as they
progress through the Montessori curriculum. Based on their observation and ongoing evaluation of individual needs, a BMS teacher guides the child in learning with specific lessons. Our classrooms provide children a safe and nurturing environment to grow and develop in an individualized way.
The Primary curriculum is designed to help the child develop physically, socially, cognitively and academically.
